About Carers Week 

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
This year, people across the country are continuing to face new challenges as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Many people are taking on more caring responsibilities for their relatives and friends who are disabled, ill or older and who need support.

They need to be recognised for the difficulties they are experiencing, respected for all they are doing, and provided with information, support and understanding.

So during Carers Week, we’re coming together to help Make Caring Visible.

There are 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers. They are looking after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness or who needs extra help as they grow older.

Caring’s impact on all aspects of life from relationships and health to finances and work should not be underestimated, and carers are facing even more difficult circumstances this year. Whilst many feel that caring is one of the most important things they do, its challenges should not be underestimated. Caring without the right information and support can be tough. 

It is vitally important that we recognise the contribution carers make to their families and local communities, workplaces and society, and that they get the support they need.

Virtual Carers Week using Zoom

Carers week will be a bit different this year as it will be virtual. We’ll have something different going on each day for all the carers of Harrow. 

We are running all different fun activities and courses on Zoom, a teleconferencing platform which is very easy to use, and you do not need to sign up to join in on the courses and activities! 

Just let us know what activities and courses you would like to join and we will give you a unique code and password to access the meeting! If you would like more information about Zoom then please give us a call or email

From complementary therapies to counselling and training for carers, your help can go a long way. Additionally, we have a number of ways you can fundraise by simply thinking of us when you go about your day-to-day lives!

8th June 

We will be starting of with a carers special social virtual group where you can come together to chat, meet old friends or make new friends. All you need to do is bring along your cuppa!  In the afternoon we will have a fun Trivia Quiz so be prepared to test your knowledge.

  • Working for Carers Mindfulness Taster Session 11:30- 13:30

9th June 

We will be holding a wellbeing workshop centred around helping carers in their day to day lives. On this day we will be looking at how nutrition can support our stressful life, what foods help us fight the effects of stress and how can we make changes in our diet to beat stress. This will be beneficial for yourself and your loved ones. Also, join us for a social game of bingo!

  • Nutrition for managing stress workshop 10:30 – 12:30

10th June  

Join us to find out more about how you can become more resilient, how stress impacts resilience and what might be affecting your resilience levels. Later on we will be having an exciting session of recipe sharing so come along to learn some new tasty recipes ideas or share your recipe secrets. 

  • Introduction to building resilience 13:00- 15:00
  • Recipe sharing and dinner idea’s 10: 30 – 12.00

11th June

On this day you can let your inner self loose by joining in the colour therapy activity. Looking at the effects of colour on your mood. We will make our own designs or colour in pre-made designs for relaxation. We will also discuss how colours effect our moods & stress levels. Followed up a game of virtual Pictionary.

12th June – Carers Right Day

To find out more about ways you can make caring more visible to people around you. Also learn more about your rights as a carer in an informative session

Sessions on the day:

  • How can caring be made visible and carers rights information session 10:00 – 11:30
  • Mental Health Support Group 13:30 – 14:30


Get involved 

We are putting together a video to spread awareness in our community to make caring more visible. To  just show the vast number of people who care and hopefully open doors for carers to who need more support. 

We are asking you, our carers to send in a video clip of yourself stating “I am a unpaid carer” additionally you could add who you care for if you feel comfortable. This could be taken on a smartphone with good lighting and preferably a head-spot video.
