Carers Week 2019

10th – 14th June 2019

We hope that we can get to see as many of you, the carers, as possible during Carers week. We hope to celebrate, enjoy and improve together! To book simply call us at 020 8868 5224 or email us at communications@harrowcarers.org.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE – YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A PAYING MEMBER TO PARTICIPATE!

This Carers Week 2019, we’re coming together to help carers get connected. There are 6.5 million unpaid carers in the UK, thousands of which are in Harrow alone. Carers are those looking after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness or who needs extra help as they grow older.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

We have a range of things going on…

During carers week we’ll have something different going on each day for all the carers of Harrow:

  • 10th June – Monday: Outreach day.
  • 11th June – Tuesday: Wellbeing Taster Day.
  • 12th June – Wednesday: Carers Retreat Day at The Niland Centre.
  • 13th June – Skills Training Day.
  • 14th June – Community Day.

See below all the details of what exactly we have planned for each day and how you can get involved!

Why not support us?

Every donation helps; whether it’s a one-off contribution like a legacy donation or a monthly direct debit. Your donations can help us create new services and provide better support to our carers. From complementary therapies to counselling and training for carers, your help can go a long way. Additionally, we have a number of ways you can fundraise by simply thinking of us when you go about your day-to-day lives!

10th June – Outreach Day

The team are out and about promoting our services in the local community, so there will be limited staff members available. It is very important for us to get out there and make sure all the carers in Harrow know about us!

If you would like to come out and join us, then please contact a member of staff!

On the day we’ll be doing:

  • Spreading the message of Harrow Carers
  • Informing people of the importance unpaid carers hold in the community.
  • Promoting the benefits of our services to those who could benefit from them.
  • Talking to carers to understand how we can better include them in our services.

11th June – Wellbeing Taster Day

Not so sure about our membership programme? Why not take it for a spin?

The wellbeing taster day gives everyone, not just our members, to attend some of our wellbeing sessions centred around helping carers in their day to day lives.

On the day we’ll be doing:

  • Mindfulness: 10:30 – 12:00
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: 14:00 – 15:30

“They really have been a lifeline – lifesavers! We badly needed their help to get the services and support. But most importantly they have been talking to my mother and helping her cope, and me cope as a carer.”

– Mukesh
